The OKA
Overall view of the current project. Consisting a cursor assembly in the center, slider mechanisms around, and a topographic model, in which the elevation is mapped to population count.
The assembly unit integrates XY coordinates for moving along the surface of the model, and the vertical scale, Z axis, will move up and down as XY moves. There will be marking on the tube to indicate some sort of quantity.
The yellow highlighted items are part of the sliding mechanism, which in this stage of the project, can be controlled by directly moving the cursor assembly, or use the side slider handles.
Completed So Far:
Revised the current scheme into a project that is realistic to accomplish given the time frame.
Revised the moving mechanism.
Sent the STL file for 3D printing to understand if it is possible to use it to create the topographical model.
Troubles:
Uncertainity. Since no fabrication has started, difficulties may arise on the way.
Need have a good way to create the topographical model if 3D printed version cannot be used.
How to project the map unto the topographical model? How to represent the map?
Future Objectives:
Start the fabrication process now. Laser cut the already modeled pieces.
Aim to complete a first draft before the weekend. And use the weekend and the weekdays to iterate.
Use the weekend before Monday Nov 20th to create the presentation to introduce the world view.
