The walk is an estimated 3340 steps/1.5 miles and is around 40 minutes long.
The walk has been designed to be accessible for people who may have any disabilities, however, there are unfortunately no toilets on the route of the walk and there are slight hills that may be difficult for some people.
We hope you enjoy the walk!
Map of where the walk will go 🔼
The walk takes place around Keptie pond, goes up to the war memorial and near the declaration of Arbroath statue then goes back down to Keptie pond again -as shown on the image of the map.
If you are driving to begin the walk, we suggest parking on Nolt Loan Road.
If you are getting the bus you can check times and locations to the Keptie Pond here. https://www.angus.gov.uk/roads_parking_and_travel/public_transport/bus_timetables
Keptie pond was made in 1886 and used to be used as an open air skating rink until 1960, when it was used as a boating pond, however in 2000 they stopped the boating and made it just a nice little pond.
Keptie is home to Terrapin turtles, swans, ducks, pigeons, fish moles, caterpillars, storks, crows and water voles as well as multiple different smaller birds
There are multiple benches around the pond if a break is needed.
The War Memorial
It was first shown in 1992 in memorial of the soldiers that died in war
George Washington brownie was the designer of the war memorial
Seats are nearby if a break is needed.
Declaration of Arbroath
The statue celebrates the fact that Scotland would continue to fight for freedom and refuse England's rule
The declaration is being held up by the Abbot of Arbroath and Robert I for everyone to see.
The Water Tower
The water tower was made in 1885 and designed by William Gillespie to look like a medieval fortress.
The tower had 3 tanks and held up to 200,000 gallons
Sadly, the water tower is no longer in use.
The Big Red Bench
Arbroath has taken delivery of its big bench as the first town outside Italy to be involved In a community project founded by EX-BMW design chief Chris Bangle.
