Prerequisite Requirements
To take Math 1050, you must meet one of the following prerequisites: get a math ACT score of 23 or higher, pass Math 1010 CE with a grade of C or above, or score the appropriate placement score on the ALEKS placement test at UVU.
Expectations
Math 1050 grading follows UVU standards and policies, and the class does cover a lot of material, so students should plan on having 1 ½ to 2 hours of homework each class period. Students should also be aware that there is a no test retake policy, so you will need to stay on top of your assignments in order to prepare effectively for the tests.
Course Description
Math 1050 is a concurrent enrollment course that gives credit through UVU. The course is algebra based and we focus on functions and their graphs, systems of equations, matrices and more! While you may have seen some of the topics in previous math courses, particularly Secondary 3, we will cover those topics more in depth, and we will introduce new mathematical concepts as well. This course is the foundational math course for most college majors, and is designed to prepare you to take math at the university level.
Concurrent Enrollment
Taking Math 1050 in high school allows you to get college credits for a very low tuition, provides you with the opportunity with more individualized help from the instructor, and for some of you it may mean being done with math forever! Please be aware that unlike AP courses, the CE credit is for Utah colleges, and won’t necessarily transfer out of state.
If there are any questions or issues, please email an instructor of this course.
