Prerequisite Requirements

Completion of math Secondary 1 and 2 in addition to teacher approval. Students may take this class either before or after taking Secondary Math 3.

Reason to Take Course

Students taking College Prep before Secondary Math 3 will solidify and enhance skills learned in Secondary 2 and will see many Secondary 3 concepts that will prepare you to take Secondary 3. Students taking College Prep after Secondary 3 will further solidify their understanding of concepts taught in their past math classes and will leave better prepared to take and pass their math class in college.

Course Description

This course introduces students to topics in modern mathematics as they apply to real-world contexts. Students will extend their mathematical literacy, problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm for the power and beauty of mathematics as a tool for quantifying their world. The course is intended to help students develop an understanding of how mathematics describes and explains the world in which they live. Test taking strategies to prepare students for the ACT are also covered as well as a few additional mathematics topics common to college math classes, like matrices.
