Curating Resources
One-to-one and small group literacy learning in literacy programs is about creating a personalized learning program with a learner or group of learners.
Three types of resources
When choosing a resource, consider whether it is ...
Evergreen
a library of resources that changes infrequently
static links to resources and activities
Good for consistency, accuracy and authority.
Consistent navigation makes these resources accessible to learners with a wide range of experience.
Examples: TEDTalks, RSA Videos, CBC Docs
Streaming
changes and updates frequently
Good for currency and for supplementing evergreen resources with up-to-date information or current event examples of how ideas, theories and opinions play out in real life.
Good for practising media literacy skills.
Examples: YouTube, TikTok, government websites
Pre-built learning
can be evergreen resources and/or streaming content
includes learning activities and supports
Good for independent learning, starting points for learning plans and providing models for lesson plans.
Good for extending learning outside program hours.
Examples: West Coast Reader, GCFLearnFree, Khan Academy
