FUNDRAISING & DONATIONS
WHY WE'D LOVE YOU TO FUNDRAISE FOR US
Volunteer fundraising is our ultimate strength!
When you fundraise, you're not just donating—you're amplifying our cause. Your voice sparks awareness, inspires action, and fuels our mission.
Plus, you're not just giving back; you're paying it forward. Your fundraising gelps us cover your and other volunteer costs, keeping our programs alive.
So, let's make it happen! Join us, raise funds, and let's make a difference together!
WHY DO PEOPLE DONATE (AND FUNDRAISE)?
Are you still hesitant about starting your fundraising page? Are you worried that nobody will donate to your page?
Those feelings are valid! Most people are hesitant at first, but once you start and share your story with your network, it will be all worth it! Why? You will most likely receive words of encouragement from people you are close to and possibly some donations from people you haven't heard from in a while (the power of social media!). Some might reach out and ask you questions because they will feel inspired by what you do. And it will feel great to contribute even more to the program you have felt so deeply attached to!
Are you hesitant to share your fundraising page because you think they would not be interested? That's a possibility, but you have a 50% chance with everyone that they would choose to donate! And there are so many reasons why they would!
THE KEY REASONS WHY PEOPLE DONATE TO CHARITIES
Moral duty (altruism) – where a person feels giving is the right thing to do. - At least one of your friends must be an altruist!
Ego – where a person gives because it feels good. It also includes the way they want to be perceived by others. - We all have his person in our network!
Social dynamics – when people donate because peers are doing so or peers encourage them to follow suit. Stimulated by the desire to belong and to be accepted. - If you don't ask, you don't get!
FOMO –Taking part because of a fear of missing out on the action /fun of an event or group. - Tell your network about the deadline for your fundraiser, and they will be more likely to donate!
Relatability – when the donor has been through (or knows someone who has been through) a similar experience to the cause and can empathise/want to help.
Trust – when a person wholly trusts an organisation to know what to do to help a bad situation and will use their money in the best way. - Your network will trust AHAH if you explain to them why you trust us!
Impact – when a donor can clearly see how their money will make a difference. - Make sure to share pictures of our progress; they will impress your network!
Goal setters – when a donor feels a goal is achievable because of their help. - Tell everyone why reaching the goal is important to you!
Martyrdom effect – when a donor feels the recipient has ‘earned’ the donation through an act of hardship (e.g. tirelessly working every day on the building site, cutting your beloved hair for fundraising, or running a challenging distance). - Share with your network how challenging yet rewarding the work you do every day on the program is!
What's the role of volunteer FUNDRAISING?
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donations are our lifeblood, enabling us to fulfill our mission of working with people impacted by disasters to support their needs. Yet, funding poses our greatest challenge and risk. Our rapid response model means we often lack upfront funding for projects, operating with uncertain financial gaps.
This is where volunteer fundraising steps in. Since 2015, we've recognized the power of sharing stories from disaster-affected communities and our work with them. Volunteers like you play a crucial role by reaching out to friends and family for support. Your efforts bridge the gap between potential donors and our organization.
Since 2015, volunteers like you have collectively raised $4.7 million through peer-to-peer fundraising alone. Your contributions truly make a difference, enabling us to fulfil our commitment to be there early and stay late in disaster-stricken areas.
