The Key Competencies

The Key Competencies are real life skills that help everyone function effectively within society and to be confident, connected, actively involved learners. They are woven throughout our school life and underpin all that we do.

The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five key competencies:

  • Thinking

  • Relating to others

  • Using language, symbols, and texts
