The NM 434 Roadway study from Milepost (MP) 19.66 to 25.80 was authorized by the NMDOT as a consultant led design project. The roadway improvements are classified as a 4R (reconstruction) project based on elements including realigning, major and minor drainage improvements and safety features to improve the Guadalupita Canyon corridor. The geotechnical report combines two roadway projects, the first roadway project extends from MP 19.66 north to the Mora/Colfax County line (CN 4100382). The second roadway project extends from the Mora/Colfax County line to the roadway intersection with NM 120 at MP 25.8 (CN 4100383). Geotechnical field investigations conducted by YeDoma included drilling (ODEX, Coring, SPT, DCP-SH, and Continuous Sampling) and seismic refraction studies (P-wave) to evaluate slope stability of the canyon. In addition, YeDoma is the designer of record for the retaining walls that line the corridor.
NMDOT District 4 Maintenance Crews supported the work, pioneering spur roads to facilitate access. The NMDOT Geotechnical Exploration Unit (GEU) used a track mounted Central Mine Equipment (CME) rig and a truck mounted CME rig to investigate foundation conditions at each bridge location.
