At AISJ, our commitment to the digital safety, security, and overall wellbeing of our students and staff is unwavering. We believe that technology is a powerful educational tool, but it must be balanced with healthy habits, offline human connection, and robust, proactive safety measures.
In response to parent feedback and the rapidly changing digital landscape, we approach technology use through the holistic lens of Digital Wellbeing.
AISJ is dedicated to ensuring the digital health and online safety of all students and staff. The School Director will implement measures to educate students on responsible digital citizenship, address digital risks such as cyberbullying and those related to social media, and promote healthy screen time practices, and support safe and responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI tools. Detailed procedures regarding digital citizenship, online safety, and acceptable use, and guidance for the appropriate use of AI can be found in the Employee and Parent/Student handbooks.
We hear our parents' concerns regarding screen time. Our core value statement on screen time is simple: Technology should enhance the learning experience, not monopolize it. While devices are essential for research, creation, and collaboration, we deeply value face-to-face interaction and traditional offline learning.
How we limit screen time and promote balance at school:
Intentional Integration: Teachers are encouraged to use a "laptops down" approach when technology is not actively required for a lesson, ensuring that class discussions and peer collaborations happen face-to-face.
The "Unplugged" Initiative: We actively encourage participation in our device-free extracurriculars, sports, and arts programs to ensure students develop offline resilience and social skills.
Purposeful Planning: We strive to design lessons and assignments that do not require students to be glued to a screen all day, encouraging offline reading, physical activity, and balanced homework habits.
Being safe online isn't just about firewalls; it is about human behavior. We actively educate our students on how to be responsible, empathetic digital citizens.
Cyberbullying Prevention: We teach students how to identify, report, and stand up against online bullying, treating digital spaces with the same respect as our physical hallways.
Digital Footprint Awareness: We help students understand the permanence of their online actions, social media risks, and how to protect their online reputation and personal information.
To fortify our digital ecosystem against cyber threats and protect student data, AISJ employs a comprehensive suite of security protocols:
BYOM Anti-Malware (Grades 6–12): We offer state-of-the-art anti-malware solutions for all Bring Your Own Mac (BYOM) devices during registration, ensuring each student's device is fortified against malicious software.
Mobile Device Management (MDM): Encompassing all devices from PreK to Grade 12, our sophisticated MDM system allows for the efficient management and uniform security of our digital environment.
Top-Tier Firewalls: We meticulously deploy advanced firewalls to monitor all internet traffic within the school environment. These protect against unauthorized access and are configured to notify administrators if students access inappropriate websites, ensuring a safe online experience.
Proactive IT Response: Our cybersecurity infrastructure is designed to proactively identify and alert us to potential issues so our dedicated IT team can respond swiftly—anticipating and neutralizing threats before they impact our school.
As Artificial Intelligence becomes more prevalent, we are guiding students to use it ethically and safely. We focus on using AI as a "co-pilot" for brainstorming, rather than an "autopilot" that does the work for them. 👉 Learn more by visiting our dedicated AISJ AI Portal
