5th graders have learned about problem-solving.
They know the difference between small, medium, and big problems. They know they should go to an adult with medium or big problems. But they now have the skills to solve small problems on their own using the S.T.E.P. problem-solving steps.
Kelso's solution wheel assists them with thinking of possible solutions.
They also know how to use the problem-solving steps to talk out a problem with another person.

5th graders have learned about empathy.
Empathy is the ability to feel or understand what another person is feeling.
Having empathy and respect helps them get along better with others.
People can have similar or different feelings about the same situation. People can also have different perspectives.
They can do caring things to show compassion.
5th graders have learned about bullying.
Bullying is when someone is purposefully treated in a mean way repeatedly and over time by one or more persons that have more power.
They know the difference between bullying, conflicts, and mean moments.
They know strategies for defending others that are targets of bullying and for helping themselves should they experience bullying.
Bullying is a big problem and they should tell an adult.
