A comprehensive counseling and guidance program removes barriers to learning by supporting the personal, social, emotional and developmental needs of all children. The purpose of the Lower School Counseling Program is to teach specific skills and provide learning opportunities in a proactive, preventative manner, ensuring all students are happy, healthy, and achieve school success.

Every other week I spend a period with each K2-5th grade class, teaching my Life Skills curriculum. Examples of lesson topics include problem-solving, friendship skills, empathy development, emotion regulation, impulse control, bullying prevention, and child protection. In addition, I interact with students one-on-one and in small groups as needed. Watch for emails with more information throughout the year.  You can also click on the dropdown menu above or the tabs below for your child's grade level to learn more about what they are learning.

I am available to meet with you or your child to discuss any concerns. I only provide short-term solution-focused counseling interventions for issues that impact students at school. If your child needs additional support or services, I will provide a referral to an appropriate community resource.

My office is located at the end of the 1st & 2nd grade hallway in room C6.  Please email me at sdixon@aisct.org to set up an appointment.  I am also available to meet online via Google Meet if that is more convenient for you.
