Who are school counselors and what is their role?
School Counselors are certified/licensed educators with a Masters Degree in School Counseling (or an equivalent counseling degree). School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. They support students in their social, emotional and academic development. AISCT counselors uphold the ethical and professional standards of the International School Counselor Association (ISCA).
In partnering with faculty, parents, and the community, AISCT counselors are student advocates who seek to positively impact the lives of all students, empowering and encouraging them to discover their unique selves and the world around them. The AISCT Counseling program is designed to support students in building resilience and enhancing their academic, social and personal strengths in order to navigate transitions and positively impact the world.
