Under the North Star has ended. This campaign is sadly over. Please visit our main website for the new projects!
Yes, sort of. Each mission is a distinct combat scenario that has consequences for future missions and the larger campaign. The health and state of squadrons, brigades, battalions, etc. is tracked between scenarios; so each action has downstream consequences.
You can sign up as a Commander or a Flight Lead. Commanders are responsible for planning missions to be carried out by other players, in pursuit of a strategic goal. Flight Leads provide direction for pilots and turn the broad mission into little digestable bits.
If all you want to do is fly/fight/boat: join the Discord, sign up for the game you like, and let your Flight Lead guide you.
Different Commanders have domain over different games and mission types:
Squadron Commanders are in charge of an in-game air squadron.
The Naval Commander develops C:MO missions.
Land Commander directs Red Strike and Arma 3 missions.
Of course! Feel free to "deputize" a number of willing players to assist and stand in, if necessary.
Absolutely! Just keep in mind your authority won't matter while you play as a pilot or ground-pounder. You'll be just another bird in the sky...
You work with your associated Squadron Commander to turn a strategic objective into a bite-sized piece of action for your flight of four planes.
fancy graphic pending. About a half hour of work to draw up a game plan.
Work with the Squadron Commander to figure out what your flight is supposed to do, where that is, and when you have to be there.
Create a flight plan (waypoints). There are multiple ways to acquire them, but you are responsible for getting your flight to the fight.
Determine loadouts. Squadrons have access to specific ordnance.
Keep tabs on your flightmates and make sure they're prepared for the mission. They're responsible for themselves, but you know the bigger picture.
You need, most importantly the Kola Peninsula map by OrbX, one of the core plane modules, our livery pack, and SRS.
In that case you don't even need the base game! We use LotATC for these roles, and we have server licenses so you don't even need to buy it.
We're a healthy mix of grogs and engaged casual players.
Go to the Mission Sign-Up Page and slap your name down. You don't need to commit to a single squadron or airframe, but you must have their airframe to join.
All you're doing is saying "I want to fly this airframe, at this time, on this day."
Know the mission, know your airframe, know who your wingman is. Everything else is gravy, ultimately.
You need MSFS 2020 and one of the planes in our virtual airline at NewSky. NewSky is free!
Yes, you do. It is free!
C:MO is filling out the naval side of the war. It's a niche not covered by our other games, and it's been great for submarine warfare!
Naval missions are posted on Discord and are typically assigned out to specific ships and subs. Put your name down for a ship on the C:MO Signup Sheet.
In addition to Arma 3, you'll need our mod list (TBD), TeamSpeak 3, and you need to signed up for the current mission.
When a mission is posted, a sign-up sheet will be posted at the same time with all player roles listed. Slap your name down in the role you want.
Final list pending. Expect to see CUP, SFP, SFP:Finnish Units, ACE, TFAR, ...
Ha ha, unlikely. We may use ACE medical for the sake of cinematic wonder, but no fractures/limping, spontaneous uncon, CPR, bandage-to-wound matching...
We'll be using TFAR with TeamSpeak 3 for in-game radios. It's simply too hectic to use anything else.
It will depend on the mission, but anything is fair game. We plan on starting with small-scale special ops missions, but if there is enough interest we'd love to do larger combined arms operations!
Until we get a sense of player demand, we'll be using Drongo's Fire Support etc. for these things.
Hell yeah!
We're focusing on land warfare. The standard rules cover about 20 pages worth of details, and are fairly complex.
Once a week is the current plan, over a session that lasts a bit more than an hour. It is enough to go through what is known as a GT, Game Turn, in the ruleset, covering three movement phases and combat in-between. The session will be handled through the Vassal Engine, played on Discord.
Anyone interested and appointed by the commander to represent them on a gameday.
