Under the North Star has ended. This campaign is sadly over. Please visit our main website for the new projects!
You do not need any free nor purchased video game for these roles. They are 100 percent playable with pen and paper, Discord, and online maps. These roles interact with with the games, but do not require any of them. An arrow you draw and an order you write will be executed by other people on game days. It's a fascinating way to play, and watching your plan unfold, however it may be, on the battlefield is exhilarating.
In all these roles, you're free to assign a deputy, and you may delegate tasks to other players who are willing. We understand real world constraints, and resigning your role is no big deal. Just be sure to communicate with us.
The overall command of CTF-NORTH. The Commander will be the voice of the people and not played by a single person. Players will vote each month on the three different Courses of Action, and that will function as the Commander's Orders for that timeframe. The sub-ordinate commanders will analyze that to their best efforts, and execute it with their plans.
Depending on what AO is assigned as the focus of that timeframe, the commander directs the ground war. Some of your plans will end up on the Arma 3 gamedays. However, many of your big moves are played on the Hex Map in Vassal Engine. You may choose to play it yourself, or assign a field commander to play the boardgame on your behalf. If you choose to delegate your boardgame duties, expect to make decisions that order Brigade-level units around, but if you wish to play it yourself, you will command down to battalion level on the Vassal Engine map.
The Air Combat Component of CTF-NORTH. This player is in charge of accomplishing the overall intent, with primarily the DCS flights and airplanes being their tool. This is the most active player commander, juggling their available tools every week and giving their ATO to the flight leads. Real humans will fly your missions, so don't screw up. And if you so choose, you can loan out your air assets to be used as Air Unit Counters on the Hex-map!
CTF-NORTH has it all. There's submarines, transport ships, and even CBGs to be moved around. Your moves and decisions affect what the submarines will attempt to do, and where the carriers are. Carriers will show up on the DCS battlefield, too, and will serve as the location on where players fly from.
You are in charge of coordinating the logistics happening in MSFS and X-Plane, and Truck simulator and deciding broad strokes for the players to execute logistics operations with.
