Year & Catch-up Funding

Year 7 Catch up Funding

The literacy and numeracy Catch up Funding gives schools additional funding to support pupils who do not achieve the government’s expected standard in English and maths by the time they leave primary school.

At Pioneer we use the Catch up Funding to ensure:

Funding Grant for academic year 2017-2018

The school received £3,500 Catch up Funding over the course of the year and the grant was used to fund the following:

The Impact of our expenditure

The impact of the training was that teachers developed their strategies for supporting pupils with severe or profound learning difficulties in maths and improved their pedagogical knowledge. Teachers commented that they felt more confident in what they were delivering and pupils were more engaged for longer periods in maths activities.

The impact of maths week was pupils were engaged in challenging and creative activities and were able to show case their skills to peers and parents. Maths week culminated in a competition to build a robot using different shapes which was a huge success. The competition was judged by the Chair of Governors.

An increased number of pupils regularly asked to go and look at/read the new books or asked an adult to read to them.  Pupils were sometimes seen sharing a book, helping to improve their social and communication skills.

Pupils showed great enjoyment in the books they chose, making props including baking and cooking different foods.  They also made costumes and performed sections of their books.

2018 - 2019

The school received £4,375  Catch up Funding over the course of the year and the grant was used to fund the following:

Providing and equipping  additional ‘Story telling space’ with comfortable mats, bean bags etc that small groups can use to share a book.

The Impact of our expenditure

We have produced a Story Hut as a dedicated themed space for storytelling. This has provided a more intimate storytelling space for small groups. Pupils have been more focused on the story without distraction from people walking through the library.

2019 - 2020
