Our Story

Here's some background information on how Pioneer School was formed.

Pioneer School was formerly two separate schools – Elmbrook School and Moat House School, both based in Church Road Basildon.

Elmbrook School catered for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties and pupils with complex learning difficulties aged 3 – 19 and Moat House School catered for pupils with moderate learning difficulties aged 5 – 16.

The two schools amalgamated in September 2003 to form Pioneer School but were still based on the two separate campuses.

In January 2009, after many years of fundraising and planning, the school moved into a new, purpose built premises on the current site.  Planning for further development continued and a new wing funded by the Building Schools for the Future programme, opened in September 2011.  The facilities this produced are of high quality and provide state of the art resources to support the curriculum and student learning.

Pioneer became an academy in June 2012 as part of Academies Enterprise Trust.
