Careers (CEIAG)
The Academy believes that every individual should be prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, and that this preparation should be an important and distinctive element of the curriculum.
The Academy will ensure that each pupil’s curriculum is broad and balanced to meet career aspirations as they develop, and that there will be equality of access to all teaching and learning strategies irrespective of gender, race, creed and ability. This will be achieved through consultation with teachers, pupils, parents/ carers, and the statutory Independent and impartial careers advice commissioned by the academy.
Any business, college or independent training provider wanting to provide information to our students can contact Mrs S Richmond CEIAG co-ordinator, on 023 80891192 or via email srichmond@newforestacademy.org to organise a meeting.

Careers Programme 2024-25 (Coming soon)
Careers Information
Being an education establishment, we follow the Gatsby Benchmarks. These 8 Benchmarks are the foundation of our Careers Programme. Our provision is inspected and audited by the Careers and Enterprise Company using the Compass Careers Benchmark Tool. This tool is used by schools and colleges in England to support the analysis and evaluation of careers activity against the eight benchmarks of best practice. As recommended by Gatsby Benchmark 1, we plan to review the published Careers information on an annual basis, inviting feedback from key stakeholders.
The Careers Department coordinates a fantastic variety of activities, visits and events tailored specifically for each year group. These include; lessons and workshops integrated into the curriculum, assemblies, guest speakers, work experience schemes, external visits, FE / HE / Training provider talks, Careers Fair and Apprenticeship talks.
Provider Access Policy Statement and Careers Programme 2023-24
This policy sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the school for the purposes of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
The School uses Compass + to record, measure and evaluate the careers programme. This tool, along with analysing destination data and surveys, is then used to measure the programme’s impact. In addition, where appropriate, the views of students and parents will be surveyed after key events. New Forest Academy maintains accurate destination data for Year 11 leavers.
Careers Guidance
At New Forest Academy we aim to support pupils and parents/carers by providing timely advice and guidance throughout Years 7-11. This support, advice and many opportunities are made possible by our strong relationships with local Colleges, Employers, Training providers and Universities.
Every student has the opportunity for an impartial guidance interview, to explore the range of education or training options – including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways – available whenever significant study or career choices are being made.
New Forest Academy has a qualified and impartial Careers Advisor to provide support in making individual future career and study plans. Appointments can be requested by parents or students through the tutor, head of year or emailing the Careers Leader on srichmond@newforestacademy.org
LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION (LMI)
It is important for every student, parent and carer to be aware of and make use of Labour Market Information. This can help to prepare students for decisions on future study and potential job sectors. LMI is updated regularly and shows trends and opportunities to support students in a successful future career.
Being on the Hampshire and Dorset borders, it is useful for students to be aware of the LMI in both counties. To learn more about the most up to date local Labour Market Information click HERE.

Working in partnership with parents, the Careers Department guides and supports students in an enthusiastic and professional relationship throughout their time at New Forest Academy.
For support with helping your Child make the right decision please see our resources page and make the future yours support magazines for post 16 and 18 as well as newsletter articles emails sent out by the Careers Department.
How can you help?
Talk about careers regularly at home – the different jobs you may have had, how you decided on your current career path and what you have learned from all of your combined experiences.
Share your CV and help them in producing their own. Going through the motions of detailing their skills, experiences and qualifications on paper can really help students to see their current development clearly.
Run through typical interview questions and talk about your own encounters – both good and bad! Learning how to present themselves professionally and keeping a cool head in an interview situation is a valuable skill which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Attend our events such as the annual Careers Fair and Apprenticeship Fair for the opportunity to speak in person with employers and further education institutions. A good tip is to take a ‘backseat’ for this occasion and let your child take control of the event and ask the questions directly themselves.
Attend College and University Open Days to explore what different establishments have to offer. Prospectuses are always available but there’s nothing quite like walking around a campus to really get the feel of a place.
Give us feedback! We are always looking to develop and evolve our careers education provision so please do get in contact if you have any comments or suggestions.
Get directly involved yourself! If you work for an employer who would be willing to support our careers education providing, be that through presenting an assembly, attending a Fair as an exhibitor, or being a practise interviewer, we would love to hear from you.

Work Experience
We are proud to offer an annual work experience scheme for our Year 10 students. The aim of work experience is to help prepare students for the transition from education to employment by giving them the opportunity to get involved in the world of work and gain first-hand knowledge of what a particular job entails. It really is an exciting step for students as they transition from their final stage of school education and prepare for the real working world!
Students are expected to arrange their own placements but will receive in depth guidance from the Careers Department on how to do this.
Our students always make us so proud during their time in the community, acting as great ambassadors for the school during their time in the real working world. We are grateful to our local community for the continued support they have shown our students with accommodating them on placements.
