Sports Premium

What is the sports premium?

The Government is providing funding of £150 million to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. Starting from September 2013, and lasting until at least 2016, ring-fenced funding – only to be spent on sport – will go directly to schools who will decide what is best for their children’s sport needs. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Four Dwellings Primary Academy provides a wide variety of physical activities for pupils, both during the school day and through extra-curricular clubs. Clubs are run for all year groups in KS1 and KS2. Through sport and other physical activities, they learn to increase their body control, coordination, dexterity, fitness and skill levels in a wide range of sports. Pupils also learn about their responsibilities both as individuals and members of teams. They learn to cooperate and to compete fairly.

Our PE curriculum focuses on pupils developing a range of physical skills and improved body control through a range of gymnastic, dance and games activities, as well as outdoor and adventurous activities, athletics and swimming. The children are encouraged to enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle, responding positively to challenges and developing self-confidence and physical capabilities. Pupils learn about their changing bodies and the importance of nutrition and rest for a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
