When learning needs to happen away from campus, we will provide students with learning experiences that support our mission and beliefs. We will continue to nurture our culture of belonging by actively reaching out to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of our learners.
SCHEDULE
We will follow the schedule as per our calendar including holidays and the 1-4 / 5-8 day schedule.
TEACHER OFFICE TIME
Teachers will communicate a consistent time that they will be online from Monday to Friday.
CLASSES
While we will follow the calendar and our 1-8 schedule, classes are asynchronous, meaning that you do not have to be online for each class. At times, teachers may meet with a class synchronously via Zoom or Google Hangouts (invite the class to video conference all at one time).
ASSIGNMENTS
Teachers will have assignments for the day posted by 9:00 AM Delhi time.
The assignments will be:
clear
relate directly to a learning goal or standard
include a rubric when appropriate
include an exemplar when appropriate.
UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS PROCESS
High School Counselors will continue to support students during the university admissions process.
LEARNING SUPPORT
Learning Support teachers will continue to support students and colleagues. Students are encouraged to reach out to Mr. Strever or Ms. Bhalla as needed.
EAL
EAL teachers will continue to support students. Students are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Frazier or Ms. Rollison as needed.
STUDY ENVIRONMENT
It is recommended that students find a comfortable and quiet space to study/learn such as the dining room and away from the bedroom (bedrooms are for sleeping).
ACADEMICS
Students will check email and/or Google Classrooms that teachers use to deliver curriculum daily from Monday-Friday.
Remember that academic honesty expectations still apply.
Monitor grades and attendance regularly through PowerSchool.
ATTENDANCE
Faculty will take attendance in PowerSchool every Friday.
Students who have not shown any engagement or missed submitting a formative assessment, for example, will be counted as Absent (48-hour window).
If there are extenuating circumstances such as travel, Internet connections, or illness just inform your teacher.
SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL
It is recommended that students create both a daily and weekly plan that includes:
physical activity
healthy diet
mindfulness practice
sleep
stress management
social time.
Be social with friends and family.
Follow the daily Student Announcements.
Talk to your classmates about the difficulties that you’re having.
Take breaks from your screen.
At the end of the day, reflect on what went well and what can be improved.
May contact their counselors regarding any social-emotional needs that they may have.
Be mindful that school and learning continues and that holidays have not arrived early.

IB
IB Updates (link here to the IB's page with almost-daily updates) - This page outlines many measures of support provided by the IB to schools affected by COVID-19. It is frequently updated.
The assessments for the Class of 2020 have all been submitted to the IB, and now we wait for the release of results on July 6th. Ms. Hjellming will host a Zoom presentation for all graduates and their parents a few days prior to review the options should they have questions about those results.
Ms. Hjellming has a way for IB Year 1 and 2 Course and Diploma candidates to ask IB-related questions, and the Q&A is here for IB Year 1 students and here for IB Year 2 students.
As always, Ms. Hjellming is working with the IBO, teachers, and students to ensure continuity in our IB courses and the IB Diploma Program.
AP
AP Update (link here to AP's COVID-19 update page) - Please see Ms. Hjellming's email to AP students and parents HERE. The revised exam schedule is available HERE. Ms. Hjellming hosted a mandatory AP pre-exam session via Zoom on Tuesday, May 5th and the slides are available here.
OFFICE HOURS
Counselors will not offer Office Hours. Rather, they will monitor email throughout the day.
Counselors will schedule appointments with students as needed. Families should contact the counselor directly and provide times that are convenient for them.
SUPPORT
Teachers may contact counselors if a student needs social or emotional support. This advocacy may involve conversations with parents, teachers, and administrators.
Counselors may encourage families to find local mental health care providers. Counselors can recommend online mental health care providers.
Counselors will continue to support students during the university admissions process.
Counselors may need to advocate for altered eLearning expectations
In the event of a serious concern about a student (i.e. self-harm, suicidal thoughts/threats, severe anxiety, Child Protection situation, etc.) the school counselor will immediately refer the concern to their school section principal and the school psychologist.
Surveys will be conducted on an as-needed basis (should closure be more than 2 weeks) with students regarding their academic and social-emotional needs.
Counselors will refrain from providing individual online therapy for students experiencing significant mental health symptoms because they do not have direct access to students and therefore are unable to privately and confidentially meet with students, ensure safety, or quickly access other mental health services. Students/families will be referred out in these circumstances.
Guardians are encouraged to:
Provide an environment that is comfortable, public and free of distractions
Support their children and have clear expectations for their child in completing all work
Remind their child that school and learning continues and that holidays have not arrived early
Check-in with their child about their work at the start of the day and at the end of the day
Continually review grades through PowerSchool
Take an active role in the learning of their child
Will do their best to provide essential items such as piano, guitar, space for physical activity (PE) or other items needed for learning
Encourage:
physical activity
healthy diet
mindfulness practice
sleep
stress management
social time
The safety, privacy, and security of our students and faculty is of the utmost importance.
Any video interaction between faculty and students will be recorded if it is 1 to 1. If there are other adults or students present, then recording the meeting is no longer expected.
To secure Zoom video conferencing, teachers have been asked to follow the protocols that Zoom recommends in this article.
