What do I develop?

PE is brilliant for developing your self-confidence, organisation and leadership. These are essential for any career path. When learning a new sport or technique in PE you are developing all of these skills even if you may not know it.

As well as developing your physical fitness, PE develops your: communication skills when you discuss tactics as a team, teamwork skills when you are working alongside students who wouldn’t normally be in your friendship group, analysis and evaluation when you are able to critically comment on someone’s technique or decision making in a certain sport.

How is this relevant to my future?

The skills that you learn and develop from practical core lessons, as well as those you gain in the classroom, are so important for when you leave school, be it in regular employment or further study. Teamwork, communication and social skills are vital in any job setting or workplace. Good teamwork is a skill that makes you employable, which is why any sporting achievements can be relevant for any applications or job interviews you may have in the near future. In the world of work, being able to communicate successfully with others is a well sought after skill.

One of Mr Taylor's closest friends now owns his own Osteopathy Clinic. Osteopathy is very similar to physiotherapy. At school he did GCSE PE which taught him more specifically about the human body and how it works in relation to sport. He now works for a number of local rugby clubs as their physio as well as having many private clients. To learn more about Osteopathy click here:
