Aircraft design is a unique course in the Aeronautical Engineering, the process involves the analytical courses such as Aerodynamics, Structures, Propulsion and Control Systems . The Design is a complex process which involves sizing, selection of main systems, manufacturing, assembling, testing, and maintaining it in the Airworthy condition.
The designers hold the responsibility throughout the operational life the aircraft. The design depends upon many factors such as customer and manufacturer demand, safety protocols, physical and economic constraints.
Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to
Describe about the design process and methodology, will be able to explain about aircraft configuration alternatives and their significance.
Describe about various cost factors involved in the aircraft design, operation of an aircraft and airline economics.
Apply the knowledge of aircraft design and estimate take-off weight, dimensional parameter's of wing, fuselage, tail, control surfaces and engine based on the requirements.
Analyze the performance characteristics such as takeoff, landing, level turn, climb for the given aircraft configuration and parameters.
Estimate the Drag characteristics, air loads, V-n diagram, Gust load diagrams for the aircraft.
Perform constriant and performance analysis for the given deign problem.
