Current competency level: planning ____ progressing ____ demonstrating __X__
How I demonstrate(d) this competency:
During my time as a barista, I had to work as part of a team to be successful. It takes a team of people to make a restaurant run smoothly, and when one person doesn't do their part, it makes everyone else's job a lot harder. Also during my time as a lifeguard, teamwork is an essential part of the job. One rescuer cannot be expected to run an emergency action plan successfully, but rather as a team successful rescue and first aid is completed together. Additionally, working in EMS requires a high degree of teamwork, and requires you to understand the role you play in the care of an individual.
Why it's important:
Teamwork is one of, if not the most defining ethic of success within healthcare. A doctor by themself is nothing without the team they work with, and the same goes for any healthcare profession like nursing, x-ray technicians, EMT's and Paramedics, etc.
What this says about me:
I believe that teamwork has been a skill that I have been improving and building on since a young age, and as time goes on, the importance of teamwork is highlighted to me in different ways.
What I learned or how I grew from this experience:
I have learned more about myself, like how I prefer to lead others, and how I prefer to be led by others. I have also learned how best to keep humility and respect at the center of everything I do, especially when working as part of a team.
How this prepared me or influence my interest:
I think that being a doctor requires a lot more than just medical knowledge. Being a good doctor requires successful leadership and teamwork skills, so that everyone can do their job to the best of their abilities. It is impossible to work in healthcare and neglect the teamwork aspect of your profession.
My plan(s) to develop this competency:
