Hello Claxton Family,
My name is Dominick LaPorte. I am from Massachusetts (go Sox, Pats, Celtics, Revs, and Bruins). I attended Bridgewater State University, graduating with a B.S. in Physical and Health Education and a minor in Public Health and Coaching.
Prior coming to Asheville in 2018, my wife and I were in Knoxville, Tennessee for one year. Here, I taught Physical and Health Education to middle school students. Before making the big move to TN I also taught one year at Parmenter Elementary School in Franklin, Massachusetts. Having the ability to teach in three different states has helped me bring ideas from each and help me implement rigorous and fun lessons for our amazing students at Claxton Elementary School. My goal each and every day is to leave young students motivated to live a healthy and active lifestyle. After all, your health is your wealth.
In my free time I love landscaping with my Japanese maple tree collection. I love all sports, but soccer is one of my favorites to play. I also enjoy running anywhere from one mile races to 24hr races and winning a few when competing. When I’m not running I enjoy going on long hikes, cooking healthy meals, and playing with my two bengal cats, Annabelle and Smokey. Living a "zero waste lifestyle" is something I have been passionate about and making an effort towards the past few years. I look forward to impacting young minds in Health and Physical Education at Claxton Elementary School each and every day.
I look forward to teaching the next generation here at Claxton Elementary, and I am very excited for this opportunity. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you would like to simply say hello.
Kind regards,
Dominick LaPorte

My wife and I were able to plan a trip to see Portland, The Redwoods, Mt. Hood,, and Multnomah Falls (611'), and Mount. Saint Helen's. Highly recommend it! Get outside and explore.

Welcome back Claxton! I'm excited to see you all back again for another awesome year! For the month of August and September we went over our safety procedures, routines, what we did over the summer and of course an update on Smokey and Annabelle :-). We also worked on new and some of our old favorite games for team building. Thanks to the PTO for the Gaga Ball pit! That was the biggest hit for September!

We have completed our fitness testing focusing on goal building to see if we can reach for our goal after I have averaged our scores from last year. Focusing on our chin ups, flexed arm hang, curl ups, pacer test, and sit and reach. We have begun our soccer unit. We also did a wonderful job reaching all our goals for the Fun Run and for that I will be slimed along with Mr. Garrity and Mrs. Wright! What a blast that was and well done everyone on raising money to help our school. Remember to get out and hike to see all the amazing fall colors this year. Mr. Johnson, my wife and I were able to get out on an amazing hike in the Montreat mountains.

In November we were working hard on our soccer unit and kindergarten earning their PE license in class. Here's some clips and images of us hard at work having the best time doing what we love! It was great to get the students excited for the World Cup that happens once every four years and to root for our favorite teams, while we practice our soccer skills.

As the holiday break was closing in we were able to enjoy ourselves in a new unit of football. We focused on teamwork, being leaders, throwing, catching, and some fun games like Basketfoot (my all time favorite game of ultimate frisbee/disc, basketball, and football combined). These photos show the great camaraderie for each other here at Claxton!
