Claxton Health and Physical Education with Mr. LaPorte.

April

We have finished up our baseball unit and working on our post fitness testing. It has been very impressive what we have accomplished and reaching our goals from last year! Lets keep it up Claxton!

March

Wow what a fun month it has been here at Claxton. Spring has been in the air! We have finished up jump rope unit and sliding right into our baseball unit, as well co-teaching with Rigsby teaching dance.

February

Hey Claxton! It's been a busy month so far as we finished up probably our favorite unit of hockey and started up our jump rope unit just in time for our heart health February.

January

December

We are finishing up our fitness testing with just curl ups and the mile left to complete 3rd-5th and 2nd grade graders are learning about fitness components. K-1st is wrapping up passing and shooting for soccer. After that we will be starting our hockey unit for K-5th in January. Have a happy holiday break everyone and I hope we all can get in at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. Try to go for a nice hike with the family or create a routine of doing push ups, pull ups, or even a walk each day with family.

November

We have finished up our basketball unit and beginning our pre-fitness testing. Fitness lessons will continue through December followed with a hockey unit. Here are some "shots" from November's lessons. Have a great Thanksgiving break everyone!

October

We have completed our soccer unit and have begun our basketball unit. 4th graders are also learning their important bones of the body where they have a pre test and will have a post test at the end of the year. This is also my professional goal to see if the students can achieve at least 70% average by the end of the year. The first test was to expect failure (not their grade in PE/Health), and then show progress towards the final goal. There will also be helpful worksheets and a magnetic skeleton on the board, where I'll introduce a new bone of the week for the 4th graders. We also did a wonderful job reaching all our goals for the Fun Run!

August & September

These months we focused on team building exercises, earning our PE license for Kindergarten and 1st grade. 2nd - 4th worked on their soccer lessons that consisted of dribbling, passing, shooting, and small sided games.

Mr. LaPorte's Biography

Hello Claxton Family,

My name is Dominick LaPorte. I am from Massachusetts (go Sox, Pats, Celtics, Revs, and Bruins). I attended Bridgewater State University, graduating with a B.S. in Physical and Health Education and a minor in Public Health and Coaching.

Prior coming to Asheville in 2018, my wife and I were in Knoxville, Tennessee for one year. Here, I taught Physical and Health Education to 6th-8th students. Before making the big move to TN I also taught one year at Parmenter Elementary School in Franklin, Massachusetts. Having the ability to teach in three different states has helped me bring ideas from each and help me implement rigorous and fun lessons for our amazing students at Claxton Elementary School. My goal each and every day is to leave young students motivated to live a healthy and active lifestyle. After all, your health is your wealth.

In my free time I love landscaping with my Japanese maple tree collection. I love all sports, but soccer is one of my favorites to play. I also enjoy running anywhere from one mile races to 24hr races and winning a few when competing. When I’m not running I enjoy going on long hikes, cooking healthy meals, and playing with my two bengal cats, Annabelle and Smokey. Living a "zero waste lifestyle" is something I have been passionate about and making an effort towards the past few years. I'm look forward to impacting young minds in Health and Physical Education at Claxton Elementary School.

I look forward to teaching the next generation here at Claxton Elementary, and I am very excited for this opportunity. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you would like to simply say hello.
