“After booking a trip reservation to the Alpine route, I received a message immediately. I really appreciated that. The staff were really friendly and accommodated our requests for vegan & vegetarian meals. The space was very clean, and the sunrise was nice. One thing to note is that they only have shared bathrooms but the staff do maintain it and keep it quite clean. The view overlooking the clouds over the city complemented the scenic mountain view from our room.”

“I can’t wait to go back. The sky was great, the food was excellent, and the owners make you feel right at home—like you’re part of the family. If you visit during the snow season, you can use snowshoes and travel all the way to Murodo. It’s a lot of fun and a great work-out!”

GREAT LOCATION. The lodge is next to the bus station, and breakfast and dinner are delicious. The staff also do rice and bread refills. Even though it is almost impossible to avoid insects in mountain areas, the rooms were quite clean. If you would like to stay in Tateyama longer than 2 nights, I’d highly recommend this place.”

“It’s a perfect place to stay while visiting the snow wall and crossing the Alpine road. The people cooking at the lodge are so nice. Everything is clean and well thought-out—considering that you spend your stay in the snow. Additionally, the dinner they served all together was delicious.”

In April 2023, a review by a lodge guest from Costa Rica said:

“A place that is peaceful, quiet, and has lovely staff. The lodge is nice and warm. In the middle of the Alpine route, the views are amazing. The lodge is away from other lodges and hotels, so it’s very quiet and peaceful. The meals are delicious, and the best part is the staff. Everyone who works here has an amazing attitude and they always have a smile on their face. They are nice, polite, and always willing to help you in any way they can. I wish I knew Japanese so I could talk to them. I stayed in a Western-style room first and then a Japanese-style room during the next visit. I LOVED THE ROOMS.”

The food was great, the staff was accommodating and friendly. We would definitely like to come back when the weather is better.”

“A cozy family-oriented lodge. A Japanese-style room with a mountain view, staff that were attentive to the needs of the customers, and home-cooked food. It was all excellent.”

September 2023 an interview with two guests from Australia.

The staff were super friendly, they spoke english and prepared a flyer, about the lodge and the itinerary about meals, bath time e.t.c. Super helpful. Best part is there is a morning shuttle bus to the Murodo Terminal that is actually free of charge. which usually departs at 7:20am, was a very convenient luxury during our stay.

The sunset was like nothing in this world really breathtaking. The meals are amazing, so much variety! In case you don't like something there are quite a few choices right infront of you. Overall this is was a fantastic experience!

FROM VARIOUS GUESTS.

The walls are really thin, other guests might be noisy.

Due to the location of the lodge, they don't provide bath towels please bring your own if the small towels are too small for you.

The lodge doesn't really provide suffice information on how wonderful the mountain experience really is.

There's little to no information provided beforehand, if you are a spontaneous traveler you'll be fine. If you like to plan ahead you might need to do some research before making a reservation, since the mountain lodge is in a very arid location.

The bath time isn't flexible, not to mention it is a shared bathroom, it is quite nice however the Japanese guests might immediately leave the bathroom if they see a foreign guest.

The pillow was small and uncomfortable.

The meal times and bath times are timed and not flexible.

An in-person interview with a repeated guest stated:

“The staff are friendly, beds are comfy, and the meals are delicious. The mountain lodge is remote in the mountains, but it wasn’t isolating, rather, it was comfortable.”

An in-person interview with a 30-time regular guest stated:

“I’ve been to Tengudaira many times—for ski training, camping, and trekking amidst the tall mountains. I am a part of the high school ski team and cross country team in Toyama, and having an area so close to home has been nice. The Tengudaira base camp is a great location for training. It is spacious, has kind staff, delicious food, the views are amazing, very fast service, and is comfortable as it is cozy. The family-oriented lodge makes you feel right at home every single time.
