‘In 2023-2024, the Argyll and Bute Educational Psychology Service, alongside Louise Chisholm (Virtual Head Teacher for Care Experienced Children and Young People) started a consultation process to gather views from care experienced children and young people across the authority. In a bid to move higher up the ladder of participation this research undertook the first steps towards Participatory Action Research, consulting with care experienced young people, with the final goal of creating a group where young people have authority to explore, research, and make decisions about issues which affect them.
The current academic year we will commence phase two of the project, where we will establish a group of care experienced young people to discuss the findings so far and plan appropriate next steps to ensure that the voices of Argyll and Bute’s care experienced young people are heard.’
Our aim is to put young people’s voices at the centre of the research as well as work towards a system where they have more power. The first phase of the project has been completed and young people have identified what supports them in their education.
