EQAO Support

In their first two years of high schools, students participate in two EQAO evaluations. Students with identified exceptionalities who receive accommodations as a result of their IEP are also eligible for accommodations on these assessments.

Students in Gr. 9 Math in both semesters write a standard mathematics evaluation, where part of the evaluation comprises of 10% of the overall mark earned for the course. The content of the test reflects that which is taught during the course. Students who take Locally-Developed Math are exempt from this evaluation.

In grade 10, all students who are working towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma write the Ontario Secondary Schools Literacy Test (OSSLT). The content of this test reflects a cross-curricular skill set that students should have a demonstrable grade-level proficiency of by the end of grade 9. A passing score on the OSSLT is 300 out of a possible 400 points (Level 3). Since it is a requirement for graduation, those students who are unsuccessful in their first attempt can either re-write the OSSLT the following year or take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC). The OSSLC is a credit-bearing course and will also satisfy the literacy requirement for the OSSD. A student who is unsuccessful will be advised of which of the two options is best, depending on their score.
