Educational Support Program

A student who is placed in the Educational Support Program typically requires support from an Educational Assistant. Placement in this program is determined at the IPRC meeting. Support for students in this program is shared.

Programming for students in this program focuses on a blend of academic and functional skills, and is geared toward the cognitive ability and learning style of each student. This program is designed to enhance skill acquisition, skill maintenance and skill transference. Students are encouraged to self-advocate to maximize opportunities for independence for everyday living and personal learning.

Students in this program:

  • have been identified as exceptional through the IPRC process

  • have mild to moderate developmental disabilities, in accordance with Ministry of Education criteria and with information provided by a psychologist

  • demonstrate significant delays in academic skills and adaptive functioning

  • learn at a significant lower pace that their peers

  • demonstrate weakness in comprehension and difficulties with retaining and apply information in new contexts

  • require specialized instruction and meaningful content to maximize learning

  • demonstrate the potential for a degree of academic learning, social independence and future participation in the broader community
