Welcome to this Preschool Program at Canyon View. Every child in the program will be working on communication. Due to the needs of your child, we start with the basics and build from there. Which often means your child will need to demonstrate consistent understanding of vocabulary and directions so that they can effectively use this targeted vocabulary.

Our core vocabulary program is taught weekly to students in the classroom by the SLP/SLT and then practiced all week intensively by the teachers and staff. We ask that you focus on specific target vocabulary and then once mastered, expand that learning. Some children are learning to identify and understand the meaning of targets, others will be using complete unique sentences. WE MEET YOUR CHILD WHERE THEY ARE AT and progress from there.

See the list below of basic, fundamental ordered core vocabulary that we will be considered this school year to help you and your child to better communicate. Are there any words you know your child already is using; frequently, infrequently, only when super motivated? Let the fun begin!

You will see regular weekly practices suggesting different core vocabulary with home activities that will help these communication skills "MAKE IT STICK" like a band-aid. As you move thru the site, it's designed as a parent tool to help you to click on links, videos, understand how to practice etc. We typically will practice GREEN words here in Tier III but each child's needs are unique and require flexibility.
