Not to be confused with the Instructional Excellence Program, the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Program is run by the Math and English Departments. The program is required for all new international graduate students and features two training areas intended to help new students in the Mathematics Department improve their English skills and become accustomed to how we teach in the United States.
The first area is an English class provided by the English Department which aims to improve the English skills of our international students. The class meets four days a week for five weeks.
The second area is a mathematics instruction course taught by current graduate students in our department. They focus on specifically teaching mathematics courses, in particular our Calculus I classes. This course also provides insight into American pedagogy and teaching culture.
More information about the ITA program can be obtained from the Graduate Program Coordinator in 203 Van Vleck.
