Week of May 1st

I cannot believe that the calendar has turned another page to May and that we are in the home stretch of fourth grade. That said, by the looks of the above Zoom shot we are all ready for summer. Yesterday's Zoom was our way of dipping our toes into warmer weather. The kids, and I, had to first change into a pair of our brightest shorts. Next came the sandals or flip-flops. We added a fun, colorful summer shirt, and topped off our outfits with a pair of sunglasses. If you ask me, we make one fine (and really cute, too) looking class.

Our eLearning continued in math with a wrap up of our unit on data and probability. We looked at the likelihood of a particular event taking place and also the percentage of probability that something specific might occur given a set of circumstances. We will front load our next unit of measurement and conversion with a couple of lessons this week that we will revisit from earlier this year. I will be available for optional math help on Zoom at 10:00 on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. The following week, beginning on the 12th, I intend to start our math lesson each day with a whole class Zoom meeting to orient ourselves to that day's lesson and to the metric system.

Our unit on informational reading and writing continued this week with the kids researching their chosen subtopic of the Industrial Revolution. They took their research and turned it into Chapter 2 of their Informational Book. Through the use of subheadings and pictures, they will continue to write this book with the express purpose of informing the reader about the Industrial Revolution. As I have impressed upon the kids during this process, their own research and reading is for them to learn and their writing is for them to inform and teach.

As part of the end to our Social Studies curriculum, your child will participate in a day of innovation immersion on Wednesday of this upcoming week. In conjunction with Mrs. Diekman, we will have the kids INDEPENDENTLY research an innovation they choose from a list of six and then put together a google slide show that will allow them to disseminate the information they learned. This is an activity designed for the classroom that we hope can be replicated through eLearning without too much confusion or difficulty on the kids. I look forward to seeing the results of their immersion day.

I hope you and the entire family can enjoy the warmer weather that is forecasted for this weekend. Who knows, maybe you will see your child in their Zoom outfit from above. Enjoy the weekend and the weather. Most importantly, please stay safe and healthy.
