Week of February 21st

Although it was only a four day week, we packed a lot in and wrapped up a lot of curricular units as well. We finished our fractions unit with a post-test and will move directly to decimals on Monday. We will study decimals until spring break, a short four weeks away (seriously???).

We have one more group to film for our PSA's and some editing left to do, but for the most part we are finished with this unit of reading and we will begin our next unit on Monday, Informational Reading with the Industrial Revolution being the area of focus. This is a shorter unit and in tandem with our next writing unit will lead towards the kids publishing an informational 'book' on a specific aspect of the revolution.

The week in science had us looking closer at circuits, specifically series vs. parallel and also how an electrician would know how to wire a specific appliance. Did you know that there is a secret code that electricians use to decipher the wiring? We learned some of the code and used it to diagram circuits before we actually built them, cool stuff. We also built switches, which will come in quite handy next week when we build our flashlights.

All of Central had a wonderful time spreading kindness and celebrating 'Random Acts of Kindness' week. We went to the office specifically to thank and put smiles on the faces of the secretaries, nurse, and principal. We continued our kindness mission by doing the same for the cooks, custodians, and several of the special's teachers. On Friday morning, we lined up on either side of the front hall and cheered and clapped and welcomed the rest of the kids of Central. It was fun seeing their faces, especially the little ones trying to process what was taking place. Suffice to say, we took KINDNESS to a new level for the week.
