First Day of School

Wow. What an INCREDIBLE first day. I never know, year to year, how the first day will go for the kids. Well let me tell you I had a group of smiling, happy faces throughout the morning. Our morning flew by and we are all, myself included, trying to get our school legs back. I had the kids introduce their neighbor, reviewed strategies to successfully attack the logic puzzles I had waiting for them, played a name game, read 'First Day Jitters', put away our supplies, opened our goodie boxes, and of course we squeezed in a half hour of recess. Phew, we sure did tackle a lot on our first day back. My homework for this evening was to have your child go over the contents of the goodie box and explain to you why each item was included. I also asked that they get your signature on the sheet that explains all the items. Please give him or her the opportunity to come to you and tell you they have something to go over with you. If that does not happen, after a while feel free to ask if there is any homework. I am hoping to foster independence towards homework throughout the year, but also realize it is a work in progress especially at the beginning of the year.

I am SO EXCITED about this class of kids. I wholeheartedly expect a wonderful year that is full of growth and fun, engaging learning and social activities for everyone in Room 213.
