to write a short essay about themselves
to write and explain what they like to do and why
with the support of the student created posters, an essay chart, and sentence/paragraph frames.
Students review the essay chart to identify the parts of the essay.

Students use content related words on the topic of animal adaptations and defense mechanisms in simple sentences and compound sentences
to write a narrative about the animal of their choice
with the support of student created Google slides posted, Narrative Elements chart, Shared writing experiences, sentence frames posted in Google classroom

to identify, know, and use text features to locate information in an nonfiction text
to determine main ideas of a text
to summarize a text
to determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text

Cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text
with the support of vocabulary work activities, main idea supporting details graphic organizer, nonfiction text features foldable, shared writing experiences, Restate, Answer, Cite Evidence, Explain-RACE strategy.
