Framework for Instruction and Assessment

The WIDA English Language Development Standards

  • Standard 1. Social and Instructional Language: English Language Learners communicate for Social and Instructional Purposes within the school setting.
  • Standard 2, 3, 4, 5. English Language Learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts (2), Mathematics (3), Science (4), Social Studies (5).

WIDA: ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Test

  • English Language Proficiency assessment given annually to students identified as English Learners
  • Assessment in Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing

Exit Criteria set by the State of North Carolina

  • Score 4.0 or higher in the Reading and Writing Domains of the ACCESS for ELLs Test
  • Composite score of 4.8 or higher on the ACCESS for ELLs Test
  • Students are monitored for 4 years.
