DIY Vertical Wind Turbine v2
Home made magnet levitated vertical Wind turbine (VAWT) - 29.5 Kw/hour power estimated at 12m/s wind, by efficiency 18%, alternator efficiency 41-64% (depends from turbine rpm: in range 10-150).
V2 prototype is canceled, now actual prototype is V3 (started 03/2011, continuing now). To follow in progress, go to title page (sorry, updates only in Latvian). In following months (till 2013Q1) I will create new web-site design.

100-150 rpm @ 9-15 m/s .. up to 30kw/h
(rpm depends of load and construction quality)
Power generator:
Direct-drive 36 coils (12x3 phases) - or 3phase x 12 coil each.
96 Neodymium block magnets for alternator
Levitation:
4 ring magnets for main shaft levitation
360 button magnets for contra-vibration and angle stabilization.
01.09.2009 is started construction of a wind turbine "Uwix-V2" (with alternator).
Estimated power production
Created rotor base and stator base.
Tested magnet levitation.
Conclusion - The metal stripes for placing magnets are very very important! They allows placing magnets in less distance than 2 disc magnets (forces between magnets pushes each away).
For comparing .. maximal near distances between with no metal and with metal ground. Second test - thickness of metal matters or not. Surprise .. 0.5mm thick works better than 1mm thick :)
Created all wooden parts (rotor & stator)
After forks - polishing items
Bought 100 block mangents in [ebay] for alternator, Grade MGO N40 Neodymium , 5.02x1.27x1.27 cm (2"x1"x1"), 83 grams , pull 21.77kg. . Ebay seller: magnet_master
Maglev main items - 4 ring magnets[ebay] (MGO38, 10mm thick D outer=50mm, D inner= 20 mm, 74 grams , 18.326 kg pull), 300 button magnets (D=10mm , thick=3mm) from magnetsmagnetsmagnets
Bad experiment, placing maglev balancer magnets without metallic base [TOTAL FAILURE, DO NOT SO MORE!]
Metal parts - metal rings for magnets, laser-cut, well packed
Metal rings on construction, all at top, only for demo - not placed in right places
Maglev angle balancer magnets placed on one ring [360 buttons required, have purchased only 300, 40 from them crushed in previous VERY BAD EXPERIMENT by separation]
Failed to test maglev construction. Not enough buttons : for every side about 180 magnet buttons required, have purchased only 300, and from them making mistakes have lost (crushed) about 40 items.
Little assistance :)

Completing all magnetic part (first try).. - have all metallic parts and magnets
Attached magnetic base ring
magnets packed & unpacked, spacer
first pack placed
first ring (1level) completed
second ring (2level) completed
Both seems nice
UUUPS! 20 cm is already engough to fly away from metallic plates to opposite magnets... UFF.. good my fingers was not between there
Preparing for first try, positing face-to-face. Place spacers ..
how it seems from side. Yes, sure need to epoxy to the rings those magnets...
OK, try to detect - if ring magnets are enough strength to keep flying all the weight .. - w/o magnets , very OK
with magnets (incorrect placings), still distance 2..3 mm kept :) YEEE! At least one success today!
Maglev stabilizers - first (1level) ring completed
magnets now are 1/3 of size spaced.
Additional 300 button magnets arrived from USA (3 weeks waiting).
03.10.2009
Have purchased another 300 button magnets in e-Bay.
11.10.2009
Today have arrived to post-office 300 new button magnets.
13.10.2009
Good news, today started construction of pole tower.
14.10.2009
Now my idea is participating in LATVIAN innovative business IDEAS COMPETITION "IDEA CUP 2009" (www.idejukauss.lv)
16.10.2009
FULL 1 YEAR Wind data now available - RAW source (5.2MB, compressed ~800KB). Total 52706 measurements every 10 minutes.

A poles for generator arrived :) Not all holes created... must be done extra.
60 cm pole for rod.
in both endings a centred M16 hole (need M18 hole)
Big pole fixings, 1cm thick base plate
Big pole, 220mm height, the termo-isolator is left specially, for better vibration absorption
Upper connector

Digging hole for turbine concrete-base [UFF, 6 hours]. Sorry for picture quality, author is my little daughter :)
Hole couture, 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.2m deep
ground watter level reached
mud for terrain leveling
every 5 minutes, about 20 buckets before continue digging
at each corner an old concrete pole
pole about 1m height, behind poles in perimeter will be placed wooden plates for filling with concrete
fun of splash :)
filling hole base with stones
I am exhausted, but happy

01.11.2009 A good friend Aidis Tomsons has donated a armature which don't need self more, for my concrete works. Thanks! Its what I need ! 04.11.2009 Have received an important call & mail, which makes me lot enjoy. I have passed to the second level in IDEAS COMPETITION "IDEA CUP 2009" (www.idejukauss.lv). Watching on 559 concurrents, it seems very encouraging. The most intrigue for me makes, how much pretenders have left - that is a secret till official second stage opening at 06.11.2009 12:xx. Keeping in mind , that only 10 projects will be at end, 3 of them granted, i predict, that only 30-50 projects have passed. Will see if I have truth.
18.11.2009 (91th birthday of Latvia) - making concrete base
Sucking out watter
40 minutes for sucking and repairing pipes
filling heater with petrol, heating required for anchor bendig
heater damaged - other heater from friend borrowed
First portion - dry, to stop underground watter filling hole
delivering old materials for borders
Child had hoped to play in sandbox :(
3 x 40 kg cement bags
Positioning heat flame, 120 | 80cm split
Optimisation - heating all rods in same time
Bening rods as anchors 90 degrees
4 anchors
welding both double-anchors
Welding 2 anchors in right distaces to fit in a frame
Lift up frame, and welding both double-anchors
Smooth out ground, stones, armathure fitting
Ground in betton, watter still leaking in, pour in dry mixture and trash from old buildings
Almost ideal leveling
Filling with wet mixture
evening, nonstop 7 hour working. Watter not raising more. Will complete this job another day - today lack of sand and cement stops it.
