Certificate Timeline
The Science & Justice course will be offered next in Winter 2024 and again in Winter 2026. Students will apply to the SJTP in Spring 2024 and have until the end of Spring 2025 to complete all requirements or ask for an extension. Upon completion of the requirements fellows will receive a notation on their academic transcripts.
Interested students should take the following actions by term.
Fall 2023
Attend SJRC Meet & Greet (refer to website for Upcoming Events).
Attend Informational Meeting on the Science & Justice: Experiments in Collaboration course. Conducted by instructor with the Center Manager.
Enroll in the course Science & Justice: Experiments in Collaboration (ANTH 267A, BME/FMST/SOCY 268A); get enrollment code from instructor.
Winter 2024
Participate in and pass the course Science & Justice: Experiments in Collaboration (ANTH 267A, BME/FMST/SOCY 268A), with a letter grade of B or higher or S if enrolled as ‘S/US’.
The final project for the course will be the proposal for a collaborative project or public event which connects the student’s research interests with other students and/or members of the Science & Justice community.
Complete and submit the Training Program Application materials.
Spring 2024
OPTIONAL: Fellows may enroll in a 2-unit Independent Study with the Center's Director of Teaching (the 268A instructor); if wanted to support the proposed project.
Discuss proposed project feedback, make needed revisions and begin working on project.
Attend planning meetings as needed.
Apply for summer research funding (pending call from SJRC as funds are available)
Summer 2024
Fellowship payments distributed (as funds are available).
Work on project.
Attend planning meetings as needed.
Fall 2024
OPTIONAL: Fellows may enroll in a 2-unit Independent Study with the Center's Director of Teaching (the 268A instructor); if wanted to support the proposed project.
Work on project.
Attend planning meetings as needed.
Attend and participate in a 2-day Op-ed workshop (date TBD).
Winter 2025
OPTIONAL: Fellows may enroll in a 2-unit Independent Study with the Center's Director of Teaching (the 268A instructor); if wanted to support the proposed project.
Work on project.
Attend planning meetings as needed.
Spring 2025
OPTIONAL: Fellows may enroll in a 2-unit Independent Study with the Center's Director of Teaching (the 268A instructor); if wanted to support the proposed project.
Work on project.
Attend planning meetings as needed.
Present project findings or host a formal event.
Provide final write-up or public report.
