List Serves and Publicity

SJTP Fellows List Serves

To facilitate collaboration, Training Program Fellows have several lists depending on their cohort. Center staff are included in these lists, as is the Founding Director. Items to send to fellows include event planning, Cocktail Hour advertisements, related calls for papers/jobs/grants/conferences, etc.

All SJTP Fellow Cohorts: sjgrads@ucsc.edu

2010-2012 Cohorts: sjfellows2011-2012-group@ucsc.edu

2013-14 Cohort: sjfellows2013-group@ucsc.edu

2014-15 Cohort: sjfellows2014-group@ucsc.edu

2016-2017 Cohort: SJFellows2016-2017@ucsc.edu

Cocktail Hour and Reading Group Lists

Typically Cocktail Hours and Reading Groups are not advertised to the broader online S&J Community to foster more intimate on-campus community discussions. These informal gatherings are advertised on our website and emailed to SJhappenings@ucsc.edu.

MailChimp

Anyone can sign up to receive SJRC news announcements and event advertisements. The Center primarily utilizes MailChimp however, there are times (not many) when a quick and much more informal email to its community is requested.

There are two ways to sign up for MailChimp, 1) from the SJRC website home page, a link to MailChimp is provided in the top right corner or 2) by providing their email address on the Event Sign In Sheet or Generic Sign In Sheet provided at Center gatherings. The Center Manager will manually enter those signed up at events into both the MailChimp and SJ Happpening lists.

When signing up any person for the SJ Happening list, include the following text respective to the method they originally used (either through the website for MailChimp or through the Event Sign In Sheet); an email will automatically be sent to those being subscribed.

Signed up on own through MailChimp

When people sign themselves up through MailChimp, it is necessary to manually enter them into the SJ Happening list. Provide the following text and update with the most relevant information:

Thank you for signing up for the Science & Justice Newsletter, you will now receive news and event information. Join us November 19 | 4-6PM | Engineering 2, room 475 for “Is Bamboo the Next Green Gold? Balancing the Needs of Vernacular Builders, Non-human Forest Dwellers and Green Architects in the Age of Sustainability” with green Architect Darrel DeBoer, UC Berkeley Biologist Jennifer M. Jacobs and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, UC Berkeley, Rudolf von May.

Signed up at an event

When people sign up through the Event Sign In Sheet, it is necessary to manually add them to both the MailChimp and the SJ Happening list. Provide the following text and update with the most relevant information:

Thank you for attending the Science & Justice Working Group event Bike-Body-Assemblages yesterday and signing up to receive event and news updates from the Center. MailChimp Content and Schedule

Because anyone can sign themselves up to receive SJRC MailChimp emails, a weekly activity email will be sent from MailChimp to the Center's email. This will identify anyone who either signed up or unsubscribed themselves.

Beginning of term MailChimp

This should include: Welcome to a new year/term, announcements and news from summer, introduce new SJ Community members (fellows, staff, faculty, visitors), what we look forward to in the coming year, and save the date blurbs for future events.

Event advertisements

Every SJWG and SJTP event will have two associated MailChimps. The Center Manager will work with Event Hosts to gather necessary publicity information, create the MailChimp and work with the Center Director for overall continuity and to receive the Director's Introductory Letter. The Center Manager will post each MailChimp on the Center's Twitter account and tag any available participants or organizers, Twitter postings then automatically feed to the Center's Facebook account. Informal events such as Cocktail Hours are not advertised through MailChimp nor posted on the website.

Full MailChimps will be scheduled to be sent at 8AM Monday morning, two and again one weeks prior to any SJWG/SJTP event and should include:

  • Introductory Letter from the Director

    • Featured event information and an image (representing the topic - not a picture of the participants)

  • Upcoming SJWG/SJTP event information with associated images

  • Three related community events. These will always include nonCenter talks Center Directors or Affiliates participate in and co-sponsored events. If there are no upcoming Director talks or co-sponsored events, the Administrative Assistant will search various departmental or campus events for related possibilities.

Reminder MailChimps will be scheduled for 8AM the day of any SJWG/SJTP event and should only include:

  • Featured event information and image
