Get Cozy with Math

Activities:

All activities are aligned with VA approved standards and can be used with students in grades Pre-K through High School. 

• Math Strands Focus

  • Number/Number Sense 

  • Computation/Estimation

• Ten in the Bed Activities

  • Practice adding and taking away using finger puppets

  • Place pictures of stuffed animals in the bed and have each one fall out as you follow the book narrative.

  • Identify sounds of things falling - With eyes closed or facing the other way, ask students what fell out from its   noise when it hits the floor, e.g. tambourine, can, plastic bottle, squeaky toy

  • Sort real animals from toy animals

  • Match the real animal to the toy animal

  • Walk forward with each step one count (up to 10), then walk backwards with each step one count backwards

• Goodnight Moon Activities

  • Musical Sleep - Play music while students jump & dance - when music stops, students lay down and pretend to sleep

  • Find and Count the number of items on the page (1 to 5)

a) 5 yellow stars

b) 2 clocks

c) 3 bears, etc.

•    Bedtime Counting and Ten Little Bears

  • File Folder Activity for Math, such as one-to-one correspondence, adding, and taking away

•    Math Strand Focus:

•  Go-Talk 9+

  •   Use Overlays to:

a) Help students count along with the book

b) Count number of items on the page

c) Select a book to be read
