All activities are aligned with VA approved standards and can be used with students in grades Pre-K through High School.
Math Strand Addressed:
Number/Number Sense
Magnetic Letter Match
Students will select a small blue magnetic board.
Students will take letters and put alphabet in order.
Students will fill in the missing alphabet on the board.
Color Match
Students will take a color card from the bag.
Students will clip a clothespin onto the correct color.
Alternative idea: Students can write the name of the color on the card using a dry erase marker.
Rhyming Coconuts
Students will take a rhyme card from the bag.
Students will say the picture out loud.
Students will look for a matching coconut with a picture that rhymes with the card.
Repeat with remaining cards.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Magnetic Tray
Students will listen to the story CCBB on Spark Up and find the letters and place them on the tree.
Other use: Teacher or partner can call out letters for students to find and place on tree.
Use as a letter assessment.
ABC Puzzle with Sound
The students will empty puzzles pieces onto a flat surface and place letters onto the puzzle frame one at a time. The letter will create its letter sound once placed on the frame.
This can be done with a partner or independently.
Alphabet Wikki Sticks
Students will select a card or pre selected group of letter cards.
Using the provided wikki sticks place sticks onto the card to create the identified letter.
Follow the dotted lines to form the letter.
Coconuts for Numbers
Students will take out the coconut numbered cut outs.
Students will match the corresponding coconut to the palm tree with its number.
Repeat until on trees are completed.
ABC Arch Matchup
Student will unfold the paper with the alphabet written in an arch form.
Students will use the enclosed letters to match the alphabet letters on to the arch.
Students may use either arch depending on level of difficulty.
Alternative ideas: teacher can tape the alphabet around the table and have students sort letters or match the alphabet.
Alphabet Magnetic Matchup
Students will match abc magnetic letter to the sticker letter on the cookie tray.
Students can work independently or with a partner.
Flash Card - Clipboard Letter Match
Students will take a letter from the green photo book.
Place the letter/picture card onto the clipboard.
Find the letter that corresponds to the picture on the clipboard.
Repeat until all cards or pre selected cards have been completed.
File Folder Games (Count the letters, Spin and Write the letters)
Teacher will select the folder game appropriate for each student.
Teacher will need to make a copy for students or use dry erase markers.
When using Spin and Write games attach a paper clip as the spinner and spin with a pencil.
Monkey Match
Teacher will model this game as a whole group.
Teacher will attach a letter to the monkey in the middle of the folder.
The students will say or write the letter on their dry erase boards.
Alternative ideas: students can work independently , with a partner or small group.
Sponge ABC Letters
Teacher will use a large plastic bucket or bowl for this activity. (not included)
Teacher will place letters into the water.
Students will take turns exploring the letters in the water.
Students will pull a letter out and place onto black paper to make a letter silhouette.
Teacher must let letters dry overnight before placing the 14 back into the coconut.
Ten Frames 0-20
Students will place cards onto flat surface.
Students will match the ten frame card with its corresponding number.
Repeat until all numbers 0-20 have been completed.
Alternative ideas include: concentration, or flash card races.
CCBB Large Tree
Students will listen to CCBB either by teacher or Sparkup Reader.
Teacher will have students match letters onto the tree.
Alternative ideas: have students stand when they hear or see the letter their name begins with.
Give each student a letter from the alphabet. Have them place the letter on the tree during a second reading of the story
