Session 1 - Benny's Pennies
Use Benny’s Penny’s book to focus on recognizing and naming quantities to 5 using counting and non-counting strategies
Session 2 - Identifying and Making Sets of 5
The focus is on quickly recognizing a set of 5 or seeing it as a sum of parts
Session 3 - Identifying and Making Sets of 4
Activities include counting to 30, and verbally identifying the number of objects
Session 4 - Identifying and Making Sets of 3
The focus is on reciting the sequence of counting words to 10
Session 5: Identifying and Making Sets of 2
The focus is on identifying a set of two objects without counting.
Session 6: Counting and Comparing Quantities 0–5
The focus is on counting, comparing, and making equivalent sets to 5
Session 7: Ordering and Labeling Quantities with Numerals 1–5
The focus is on recognizing and counting quantities to 5
Session 8: Labeling Sets with Numerals 0–5
The focus is on identifying numerals in the environment and understanding how they can be used as symbols to label quantities
Session 9: Combinations of 5
The focus is on helping children to visualize the counting word sequence as a predictable pattern with structure rather than as a haphazard string of random numbers. Example: Identifying and recognizing different combinations of 5 (e.g., 3 and 2, 4 and 1, 5 and 0)
Session 10: Joining and Separating Sets of 5
The focus is on making verbal word problems for adding up to 5 objects and subtracting 1–5 from a set
All Turn It Spinner - students can spin to receive options for numbers, create computations, select the next player, etc. (material # 303)
High Roller Dice - Use a switch to roll the dice. (material # 200111)
Pouring Cup on Stand - shake and spill type activities, put dice in and let your student use their switch to pour them out. (material # 2254)
