Mr. Ho uses a variety of formative assessments in each class to inform his teaching and his students' understanding of the math concepts. When he explains math concepts in his Math Fusion classroom, he often asks students questions to check their understanding. When his students collaborate and solve in-class questions at the VNPS, he listens to their conversations and observes their work written on the whiteboards. Whenever his students struggle, he immediately goes to them and provides small-group instruction, which is one of the high-impact instructional practices recommended by the TDSB central math team. In the last 15-20 minutes of the class, he gives his students consolidation tasks, lets them work on the consolidation tasks, and provides solutions so that they can self-assess how much they learned in the class. Mr. Ho also provides a mock quiz/test to help his students identify which concepts they need to study more before the summative assessments.
