Studies show that reading during summer months prevents “summer reading loss.” Children who "lose" reading skills over the summer stay behind their classmates in the fall because the children who read over the summer do not stop improving their skills. By middle school, children who lose reading skills over the summer are up to two years behind their peers. Participation in a summer reading program is just the thing to hone those skills and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Obviously, summer reading is vital to healthy reading skills, but there is no reason for it to be boring! TCL is offering a host of activities this summer that promise to make Summer Reading 2022 the most exciting year ever!
We have a variety of "level readers" as well as traditional library books that count toward summer reading goals. Together we can make a better future for our children by helping them develop the skills they will need to be successful adults.
