Astronomy Club

Below are a few of my ideas about what we can do in the club. This list is by no means exhaustive, and I truly want the students to run the club. This is a student club, not my club.

    • Update the PV Student Handbook for extracurricular activities and advertise the club to get more students involved

    • T-shirts!!!!

    • Learn about telescopes, observing the night sky, and the motions of astronomical objects

    • Learn some basic astronomy concepts, about current experiments in astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology, and particle physics

    • Go and do some real observing

    • Popular Astronomy Club

    • Quad Cities Astronomy Club

    • Cedar Amateur Astronomers

    • Go to Bettendorf High School and view a planetarium show

    • Go to Augustana and listen to the public lectures, view the planetarium shows, or use the observatory

    • Purchase our own telescope or build our own telescope

    • Go to Fermilab in Aurora for a tour of the particle accelerator and neutrino detector

    • Host guest lectures and engage in discussion topics

      • Should we move forward with particle physics and cosmology research? We don't really have a purpose to do this research other than furthering our understanding of the universe. The research also occasionally produces some useful technology. Is it worth the cost, both human and monetary?
