Read Giancoli Chapter 23 - Light and Geometric Optics. You may skip Section 23-11 about the Lensmaker's Equation. Read through and consider Conceptual Questions 1 - 34.
Read Giancoli Chapter 24 - The Wave Nature of Light. Read through and consider Conceptual Questions 1 - 26.
Optional: read Giancoli Chapter 25 - Optical Instruments. This chapter is quite interesting if you have some extra time to peruse. However, it will not be covered in class or be assessed on the exams I really recommend Sections 25-2 (the human eye), 25-3 (the magnifying glass), 25-4 (telescopes), and 25-5 (compound microscopes).
4. Chapter 23 Problems: 4, 5, 12, 13, 14, 15, 22, 24, 34, 35, 37, 40, 42, 53, 55, 57, 59, 64, 65
5. Chapter 24: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 16, 18, 20, 26, 28, 38, 40, 45, 54, 55, 56
I know it seems like a lot of problems, and it is. Most of the problems, though, are as easy as multiplying two numbers together. The number of problems are intended to get you used to using the equations and understanding the contexts of their use.
