Course Description
Piano Lab is a performance-based course where students will develop musical skills through performance on piano with a classroom set of digital keyboards. The curriculum and pace is tailored to each individual student, so anyone from a complete beginner to an advanced pianist can participate in this class. The class structure consists of practicing the piano every day, one-on-one lessons, written theory pages, listening logs, and performance assessments. Students will not perform at concerts with the band and choir but will have the opportunity to participate in Solo/Ensemble Festival, if interested. Students can learn music beyond the class method book that is available in the classroom, online, or brought from home. Students can also improvise and compose their own music at the piano. This class can be taken as many times as the student wishes. The Wisconsin State Music Standards are Create, Perform, Respond, and Connect.
