2023 News

June 2023

Hey Scouting friends, we've got some VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!!

The Governor General of Australia, his Excellency General the Honorable David Hurley, and his wife, Her Excellency, Linda Hurley, are hosting a combined sections national Scout camp on the grounds of Government House this September!!!!

2.500 Scouts, Venturers and Rovers and 1,000 leaders from around Australia (including hundreds from the ACT ) will be camping at Government House from Sunday 24 - Friday 29 September 2023.

Joeys and Cubs are included and can attend as day trippers to visit the camp and participate in activities!

Just imagine....... 2,500+ youth members cycling, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and stand-up-paddle boarding on Lake Burley Griffin, mountain biking on Mt Stromlo, abseiling, caving and rock climbing at Cottermouth and Wee Jasper, bushwalking and 4WDing in the Brindabellas, doing archery, hatchet throwing at the GG residence, scuba experiences in the local indoor pools, building all sorts of cool pioneering towers, doing survival skills and cooking, doing lots of environmental science, technology, engineering, and the arts! Oh, and then there's potential visits to Parliament House, Questacon, War Memorial, etc....

This is a high profile event, with a lot of interest already from the national media and senior levels of parliament.

Your organising committee includes Corey Coppin as the Deputy Camp Chief, David Neumann from Birralee Scout Group, and Mark Cooper.

We are SUPER KEEN to have others lend a hand with organising the event!!! So if you're a youth member or adult leader who would like to help organise what will be an AWESOME EXPERIENCE, please get in touch!!

Please remember to pencil in your diaries for late September. Numbers are going to be limited and we will work out a process for selecting attendees to ensure a fair and equitable representation from across the ACT Branch.
