When I was 20 years old, I had an incredible life changing experience! I traveled around the world on a great ship known as the World Campus Afloat. I spent four months of my life at sea, sailing from country to country along strange and beautiful coastal cities in the Far East, Asia, Africa, and Europe. This total experience set my mind, heart and soul on fire, and I came to realize that there had to be a greater purpose and meaning of life. Three years later, I found Islam and became Muslim. Alhamdulilah. I am from Detroit and have taught in schools not only in Michigan, but in California, and Saudi Arabia where I lived and worked for 27 years. I am married and have five wonderful adult children. I have a master’s degree in teaching English as a second language, but my interactive, student-centered approach to teaching will assist me to teach middle school social studies to our GLIS students. Insha Allah.
