My name is Karen Elsadek and this is my fifteenth year at Greater Lansing Islamic School.  I've taught a variety of classes here, from Kindergarten to 8th grade, as well as serving as principal for 8 years. Before teaching at GLIS, I taught for nearly 20 years in Vermont in a one room school.  I taught K - 8 all subjects.  I received my bachelor's degree in education from the University of Vermont and my master's in educational administration from MSU.  I love teaching and working with children and especially enjoy teaching mathematics.  I have one son, Ibrahim, who will be in his second year of East Lansing High School this year.  In my free time, I enjoy reading and crocheting.  This year I will be teaching 7th grade language arts, 5th grade social studies and 4th grade language arts, math, social studies and art.  Insha Allah it will be a fun and rewarding year!
Sawsan Mahmoud Office Secretary My name is Sawsan Mahmoud. I have been in this community for 29 years; I have been married for 22 years and have three girls. I graduated from Ross Medical Education Center as a Medical Assistant, I worked at Meridian Women’s Health clinic for four years. I started with GLIS 8 years ago as an Arabic teachers. This year I'm excited to work in the office as the School Secretary. I will also be teaching Arabic for the older students. Alhamdullah, I'm happy and thankful to work here and be part of GLIS family.
 Sana Naqshabandi Accountant/ Office Assistance My name is Sana Naqshabandi. I was born in Erbil. Iraq. I graduated with a bachelor degree in Statistics,from Salahaddin University. I received my associates degree in accounting at Lansing Community College in 2011. I'm married with three children. I've been working as an accountant at the Greater Lansing Islamic School, since 2014.
 Kin Hussein Office Assistant / Recess Supervisor My name is Kin Hussein. I was born and raised in Somalia. I came to the US in 1999. I have four children. Two in high school and two in 7th and 8th grade. I went to Lansing Community College and received my LPNs. I am planning to go back to school to continue and become an RN. I have been volunteering and working at GLIS since 2010. In my free time I like to cook exotic foods, go on long walks, and have fun with my children

My name is Masarat Sayeed. I am a Montessori Teacher and I teach Early Pre-K at Greater Lansing Islamic School. I believe that children are
natural learners. When given an opportunity and freedom to choose from

I am excited to be starting my 10th year at Greater Lansing Islamic School. This will be my 16th year teaching Pre-K! I am married with 3 children of my own. My son is entering middle school, my younger daughter is embarking on her first year of college, and my oldest daughter will be graduating from college this year. For enjoyment, I love hiking, baking and crafting! Professionally, I am currently taking classes to further my education and I am enjoying every minute of it!

Hi my name is Christine Dennings and I am delighted to be the Kindergarten teacher at Greater Lansing Islamic School.  I received my bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and am certified to teach K-8th grades.  This is my first year at GLIS and I look forward to working with the kindergartners.

My name is Nilofer Rangarej and I am very excited to be teaching 1st grade at GLIS this year. I was born and raised in Toronto and completed my B.Ed there as well. Prior to moving to the Lansing area, I have taught 6th grade, 1st grade, and Sunday Islamic School to children ages 5-7. I have 2 children of my own, a 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. I am looking forward to working with the 1st graders to have an year of learning and fun!

My name is Jamie Torrey and this is my thirteenth year teaching at GLIS. I teach the core subjects in 2nd grade. I also teach sixth and seventh grade math. I have been married for six years to my husband, Andrew.  We have a 2 year old son, Jackson, who keeps us very busy.  I went to college at Saginaw Valley State University and finished my master’s degree at Mary Grove College. I have one brother named Justin and a sister named Ashley. My sister lives in Los Angeles, California and my brother lives in Bay City, Mi.   In my free time I enjoy spending time with my son, traveling, and shopping

Samantha Davis

My name is Samantha Davis and I teach 3rd grade core subjects as well as 5th and 8th grade mathematics. This is my 8th year at GLIS. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University. I majored in Mathematics and received minors in Reading and Child Development. I completed my student teaching at Lewton Elementary School in Lansing in both third grade and kindergarten classrooms. I enjoy reading in my spare time. I enjoy spending time with my husband; our 2.5 year-old daughter, Lena; and our puppy, Camden, when not at school.

Ghasak Al-Obaid 5th grade- Home room teacher,

  I was born in Lincoln, Nebraska 1976, raised in Baghdad, Iraq. I received my B.Sc. in biology in 1998 and a M.Sc. in Phytoplankton Ecology in 2007 from the University of Baghdad.In 2004, I joined Nature Iraq, an NGO, and spent couple years as a researcher and Phytoplankton team leader. In 2005, I got involved in many restoration and monitoring projects in Iraq such as the Canada-Iraq Marshlands Initiative. In 2009, I joined the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani as a researcher. It was so exciting to be part of an ecological team working on the restoration on the Iraqi Marshes. During 2011 – 2013, I gained valuable experience and knowledge as a visiting researcher in the Department of Biology, Miami University, Oxford Campus. Since fall 2014, I started as a part time instructor in Miami University, Hamilton and Oxford Campus to teach an Environmental Biology class as well as a Human Physiology class. Me and my family moved from Ohio to Michigan about a year ago. This is my first year at Greater Lansing Islamic School, I will be assisting Sr. Zainab with Pre-K and teaching 8th grade science. I am looking forward for a great year. The best times I have are those spent with my family. I love to travel, as travel has always being a part of my life. My philosophy is to never give up easily and always believe in yourself, find the positives and work around the obstacles to achieve your dreams. 
Nicole Mitchell 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher- 5th, 6th Language Arts Teacher.

My name is Nicole Mitchell. This is my sixth year teaching at G.L.I.S.  In all, I have 12 years of teaching experience. I received my teaching degree from Michigan State University and began my teaching career with the Maryland Public School Systems. I have two children who attend the East Lansing Public Schools. My son is in 4th grade and my daughter is in 8th grade. In my spare time, I enjoy taking nice, long walks and taking group fitness classes at the gym. My family and I love to take road trips, especially to New York City and North Carolina                                                                              

  Raghda Khatib 7th and 8th grade Homeroom Teacher- Arabic, Islamic Studies and Quran Teacher. Trained as a medical doctor, Raghda Khatib is very knowledgeable in Islam and Arabic, including a certificate of Tajweed of Qur'an. Prior to joining the Islamic School, Raghda has several years of experience of teaching in Sunday school. Raghda will teach Islamic studies for  5th, 6th, 7th and 8th classes and Arabic for higher level. She will also teach Quran for upper grade.

My name is Feryal Al-Qadi. I grew up in Kuwait, and have been teaching Arabic and Quran in GLIS for the past 12 years.  I have my degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the Islamic American University.I also teach in the Dar Al-Quran program. In my free time I enjoy reading Quran and visiting my family.

Ourida (Warda) has now been teaching at GLIS for several years. She will teach Islamic Studies to the Kindergartners, 1st, 2nd, 3rd  and 4th grade.

 Noha Alkholi Teacher- Quran My name is Noha AlkholiI completed my Bachelor's Degree of Physical Therapy at Cairo University and am currently a Quran teacher at the Islamic School. I am a mother of four daughters that have each attended the Islamic School. I have been teaching Quran for more than 12 years. I specialize in teaching beginners how to read the Quran. I am honored to be a part of the GLIS Team!
 Sahar Mohamed Teacher- Quran My name is Sahar Mohamed, I am a Quran teacher at the Greater Lansing Islamic School. I studied Arabic and Islamic Studies in Egypt. I have taught in summer Quran program and Sunday school.  I’m a mother for two young boys who attend GLIS. I’m very grateful to join the GLIS family this year.
 Mirvat Aly Kindergarten Aid, Quran Teacher.Mirvat had been a staff member of the school when it first opened way back in 1996. She taught Preschool, Arabic, and was a teacher’s aide. Mirvat is a very kind and caring person who we are pleased to have working with our students.
 Sadia Akhtarst Grade Teacher AidI am Sadia Akhtar, this is my second year with GLIS. I have bsc degree in pure sciences(Chemistry,Botany and Zoology )I completed my master degree in Political Science from university of Peshawar, Pakistan. I am mother of two kids, my son Shaheer is going to start 9th grade while daughter Zareesh will be in 4th grade in GLIS. I enjoy my spare time with my family.

My name is Aza Elmobarak, I was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. I have a bachelor degree in accounting from Cairo University And worked as a banker for a year then moved to the States. I moved to America in 1999, and now have three beautiful daughters; Alaa who's 18, Salma who's 17, and Cepal who's 11. I've had a lot of experience with children; I've worked as a n assistant teacher for three years in a day care in Iowa, and an additional three years as a Lead Assistant at the People of Church. I really like working with children, seeing and helping them learn and grow as individuals.

 Dion Culpepperphysical Education TeacherMy name is Dion-Anthony Culpepper G.L.I.S.’s Physical Education Teacher K-8th Grades. I am a life long Martial Artist, and Athletic Enthusiast. I am a huge proponent of Physical Activity & Team Sports and the advantages participation in such activities bring. Instruction focus’s on fitness and body mastery, sportsmanship, teamwork and participation. I aim to make the Greater Lansing Islamic School’s Physical Education Program the best in the State of Michigan (to start 😊).
