Materials Needed:
5 or more straws (regular and large straws both work)
Scissors
Tape
Marker or permanent marker
Ruler (optional)
Directions:
Cut straws into different lengths, you can either experiment with measuring and cutting or try one of the options below:
Large Straws:
6 inches
5.5 inches
5 inches
4 inches
3.5 inches
Regular Straws (measurements may vary pending on straw width):
Do = 17.5 cm
Re = 15.5 cm
Mi = 13.5 cm
Fa = 12.5 cm
So = 11 cm
La = 10 cm
Ti = 9 cm
Do' = 8.5 cm
Line up the straws from longest to shortest and wrap tape around them in a row on both sides
Number each straw with a sharpie or marker
Practice making sounds with your panpipe by resting your lower lip on the edge of the straw and blowing across (e.g. similar to making sound through the top of an empty water bottle)
Create your own tune by writing down numbers in each box below!
Tip: use washable markers so the writing will not be permanent!

Whole Note is "Ta-a-a-ah"
Dotted Half Note is "Ta-a-ah"
Half Note is "Ta-ah"
Quarter Note is "Ta"
Eighth Notes are "Ti-ti"; if an eighth note is by itself, it is "ti"
Dotted Quarter Note is "Ta-yi"
Materials Needed:
tupperware, small container, tin box, empty water bottle, toilet or paper towel roll, Easter egg, or empty cans
beans, rice, dried corn, bolts, seeds, marbles, rocks, buttons, beads... anything you'd like! Experiment creatively!
Optional:
tape, spoon, rubberband
Steps for Tupperware/Containers/Box/Bottle/Eggs:
Open the container
Put however much beans/rice/etc content you would like into the container
Test out the sound by shaking it, adjust more or less beans/rice/etc until you like the sound
you can even try mixing different contents like having rocks and buttons in it! see what cool sound combinations you can create!
Close the container; if you would like, secure it with tape
Materials Needed:
bobby pins
rubber bands
chopsticks or two sticks
empty water bottle, block of wood, styrofoam, plastic container, get creative!
Optional:
stapler, pliers, pen/marker
Steps:
Put one chopstick on the front of the wood block and one behind, then tie the chopstick ends on both sides of the wood block with the rubber band
Carefully bend the bobby pins open to an acute angle and push them in on one base of the chopsticks; adjust the pitch with pulling/pushing them further out
Decorate!
Optional: assign numbers to each bobby pin with a pen or marker and write a song using the numbers :)
